Solo, local splitscreen and online co-op
Escape Academy 2 supports one or two players. Play solo, share one screen in local splitscreen, or solve puzzles with a friend online. The Steam demo also supports all three options.
Crossplay: Steam, Xbox and PlayStation
The team’s announced crossplay pairings are:
| Pairing | Support |
|---|---|
| Steam ↔ Xbox | Yes |
| PlayStation ↔ Steam | No |
| PlayStation ↔ Xbox | No |
Choose compatible platforms before planning an online session. The Xbox listing also includes cross-platform co-op. Cross-platform save transfer is a separate feature; these pairings do not establish shared progression across accounts.
Is there a Friend Pass?
There is no Friend Pass at launch. Local couch co-op is available. The lack of a Friend Pass does not, by itself, tell you how each store handles purchases, account sharing or remote play.
Console online subscriptions
| Platform | Online-play requirement |
|---|---|
| PS5 | PS Plus |
| Xbox consoles | Game Pass Essential, Premium or Ultimate; subscription sold separately |
These are online-play permissions. They do not mean that every listed subscription tier includes the game in its catalogue. The game’s announced day-one catalogue access is through Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.
Can you turn off the timer?
The full game includes an optional No-Timer Mode. In the October demo, the choice appears after character creation:
| Mode | Escape-room rules |
|---|---|
| Casual | Unlimited time; no letter grade |
| Classic | Timers; taking hints reduces the grade score |
The mode screen says you can change the choice in the pause menu. Individual puzzle timing rules can differ from this general mode description.
